Air abrasion is a revolutionary method of caries removal. Finely graded particles of aluminium oxide powder are administered to the decayed part of the tooth under compressed air through a very small tip. This process literally wipes away the caries leaving healthy tooth structure intact without the vigorous vibrations and high-pitched screech of the conventional dental drill. It is a relatively painless procedure, often eliminating the need for anaesthetic injections. Not all cavities can be prepared using this method, but where possible, it is our treatment of choice.
